Today is a magical day. As the sun reaches its highest point in the sky above us, we give thanks for the gifts of the earth and the warm days ahead. We bask in the awesome power of the sun and pray for a bountiful harvest in the Autumn. We also welcome the coming fall, as this day marks the last moment before the nights become ever longer. As we give thanks for the light, we invite the darkness.

The summer solstice is celebrated the world over, and has been for millenia. Celts, Vikings, Romans, Greeks and Egyptians (to name a few) all held this time of year as a hugely important and spiritual period. Ancient architectural landmarks, such as Stonehenge and the Great Pyramids, were even built to align with the sun during the solstice. Wherever you're from, and whatever you believe, there is no denying the significance of the solstice. The sun gives life to the whole earth, it provides the energy that flows through everything and everyone, and on this day we connect with each other and with our ancestors to give thanks for the source of all life.
