Happy Left-Handers Day!

Happy Left-Handers Day!
August 13th marks International Left-Handers Day! ⭐

Today is a day for all you lefties to tell everyone how proud you are to be left-handed! In a world made for right-handed folks, it takes some serious patience sometimes to be a lefty and not lose your rag. So today, left-handers, we're celebrating you!

Did you know only 10% of the world's population is left-handed? Seems crazy right? But don't worry lefties, because if you're feeling alone in the world, know that you're in good company. Leonardo Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, Albert Einstein and Winston Churchill are just a few of the many left-handers whom have a prominent place in the history books.

But despite many of the world's most revered minds being left-handed, lefties have a long history of being viewed with suspicion and contempt. In the middle ages, use of the left hand was associated with witchcraft and the devil. The word "sinister" actually comes from the Latin for left: "sinestra". By the same token, the word "left" comes from "lyft": Old English for weak or idle.

The tradition of wearing one's wedding ring on the left hand also stems from this association with evil, having originated in ancient civilisations as a way to ward off unwanted spirits associated with the left hand. In Christianity's story of The Last Judgement, the damned are sent to the left, while the saved are sent to the right.

So it's not looking too great for lefties 🤔

Well, at Rogue + Wolf, we love an underdog. We love the outcast. We love the strange and unusual. And we certainly love witchcraft. So lefties, you've got a friend in us! Besides, we know from the history books that lefties are capable of some of the greatest achievements, so we don't reckon you've got much to worry about 😉

To all you left-handers, right-handers, ambidextrous folk and those of you that write with your feet, we wish you all an awesome day!

Peace & love,

Rogue + Wolf 🖤
